Edward James Olmos is an Academy Award nominated actor who has been in the film and television industry for about four decades now. Being Mexican American, he has championed portraying Latin characters on screen. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in the year 1988 for Stand and Deliver. Apart from acting, he has also produced and directed a few films, made for movies and TV shows.

Edward had not found his calling as an actor until he was in college. While in school, he had a music band named Pacific Ocean, which was the biggest thing on the west coast. He had performed in and around Los Angeles with his band and had also released an album in 1968. When he was attending East Los Angeles College, he enrolled in acting courses and later debuted with the film Aloha Bobby and Rose in 1975. He has won several awards including 2 Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Wilson Pinheiro in The Burning Season and for his role Lt. Martin Castillo in Miami Vice. He has won several ALMA awards and a Saturn Award.

He has starred in many popular and blockbuster television series, including Dexter where he plays a charismatic professor of religious studies in the sixth season. His credits also include films like Selena, Blade Runner, Zoot Suit and television shows American Me, 12 Angry Men, The Burning Season, The Disappearance of Garcia Lorca, The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit, American Family: Journey of Dreams and Walkout, among others.
