Laurence Fishburne is an American film, television and theater actor, director, producer and playwright. Also known as Laurence John Fishburne III, he is most fondly remembered as Morpheus of the Matrix trilogy. Although Laurence had been active for almost three decades prior to the release of Matrix, it is this film that got him international recognition and fame. He has appeared in dozens of films and plays. On television, he is mostly known for his role of Dr. Jack Crawford in the popular show Hannibal.

Laurence Fishburne started his career as a child actor. His first stint as an actor was in a television film, If You Give a Dance, You Gotta Pay the Band, where he played Fish. Then, he was only 10 years old. Later, he bagged the role of Tyrone Miller in Apocalypse Now. Although the film portrayed a 17 year old character, Laurence Fishburne was only 14 at the time of signing the film. He lied about his age, but by the time the shooting of the film was completed, he was almost 17.

Laurence Fishburne was the first African American to play Othello in a film produced by a prominent studio. He has been infrequent with his theater and television work, but has been consistently acting, directing, producing and writing. The plays he is mostly known for are Eden (1976), Short Eyes (1985), Urban Blight (1988), Loose Ends (1988), Two Trains Running (1992), Riff Raff (1995), The Lion in Winter (1999), Fences (2006), Without Walls (2006), Thurgood (2008) and National Memorial Day Concert on the Mall in Washington, D.C. (2009).
