Gina Torres

Gina Torres is a television and movie actress who was born on April 25, 1969 at the Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in Manhattan, New York. She and her family lived in Washington Heights before moving to The Bronx. Torres has a mezzo soprano voice and began singing at a very early age. She attended the Performing Arts and Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, where she developed her skill. She also performed gospel songs and trained in opera and jazz. Torres pursued her dream as a performer because she cannot afford to attend college.

Torres career started to bloom in 2001. She played a starring role in “Cleopatra 2525,” a Syndicated Drama Series where she won the ALMA Award for Outstanding Lead Actress. From that day on, she appeared in several films and was nominated for “Best Performance by an Actress” for the Press Academy’s Golden Satellite Award.  Some of her film appearances include “The Matrix Revolutions”, and “Matrix Reloaded.” Torres also appeared in several TV series, in the United States. Aside from acting, she also voiced the characters of sacral animated series in the “Justice League Unlimited” and “The Matrix Online.”

In 2006, Torres worked on the FOX Network for her role as Cheryl Carrera in the “Standoff,” a short lived drama series. She also appeared in the film “I Think I Love My Wife” and was a cast member in the 2009 CBS television pilot, “Washington Field.” Her Filmography started in 1996 to 2012 where she appeared in 12 films. She had a souring 58 appearances in television from the year 1992 to the present including the HBO running show time series, the “Hannibal”, “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” and “Xena: The Warrior Princess.”

Her other works also include theater and video game voice dubbing. Some of the theater acts that she participates include “Face Value”, and “The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public.” Torres also voices Mei Terumi, the “Fifth Mizukage,” in the video game “Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations.”

In September 22, 2002, Torres was married to Laurence Fishburne, whom he met while filming “The Matrix Reloaded.” Torres gave birth to her daughter, Delilah, on June 2007.  Recently, she had a main role as Jessica Pearson on the show “Suits” for USA Network. She is a talented actress and is expected to bring life to the show “Hannibal.”
